Microsoft Exchange 2003 vs 2007 benefits and features

Microsoft Exchange 2007 offers a number of enhancements and improvements over the 2003 version.  While the user interface may take a bit of time to adjust to, the benefits far outweigh the inconvenience of this learning curve.  Not only are new security features added, speed and reliability, as well as increased back up possibilities make this an upgrade that is sure to boost office productivity.

Among the security enhancements in Microsoft Exchange 2007 are network protection using Edge Transport Server, and dynamic analysis of sender reputation, and attchment stripping.  Newly introduced filters include spam signature, IP reputation, and advanced content filtering.  Open proxy detection helps to prevent Denial of Service and spam attacks, and the antivirus stamp tracks the scanning history of virus scans.  Secure Sockets Layer (SSL) encryption for outbound web traffic provides message security outside of the LAN, and internal encryption provides similar security for message exchange within an organization.

The messaging system is expanded and more powerful.  Fax and voicemail messaging are now supported, and messages of these types may be seen alongside conventional messages in a user’s inbox.  These features are also integrated into many aspects of the application, from email to the corporate directory, even including calendar and contact support.

Web support has been greatly enhanced, as well. From a scheduling assistant that can be accessed from remote locations, to Sharepoint data libraries, and even WebReady Document viewing.  Microsoft Exchange 2007 is a major step forward for the Exchange servers, and a worthy addtion or upgrade for any office environment with an interest in increased productivity and improved security.
