VISTA: Changing The Product Key/License Key

In the event that you have to change the product key used to activate Windows Vista, follow the following steps carefully.  This is a fairly simple process, and shouldn’t take more than about 5 minutes, providing you have a quick internet connection.

1. Click START.
2. Type “system”, and choose “system” from the list of choices.
3. Click “View basic information about your computer”.
Your Windows Vista activation and your Product ID number will be visible.
4. Click “Change product key”.
5. The Windows Activation window appears.  Enter the new product key in the text box.
6. Click “Next”.
Windows Vista has to contact Microsoft to validate the product key.  This may take a few minutes.
The “Activation was successful message” should appear.
7. Click “Close”.
