Windows Vista showing hidden files

We all know in windows XP how to view hidden files through any explorer window, but now in Vista it becomes a little more tricky (as with most administrative tasks in Vista). For some reason Microsoft decided it was a good idea to change the location to enable hidden file viewing.

To enable the viewing of Hidden files follow these steps:

1. Close all programs and folders.
2. Click START >> Control Panel.
3. Depending on whether you are using Classic View or Control Panel Home view:

Classic View:
1. Double-click the Folder Options icon.
2. Click View tab.
3. Go to step 4.

Control Panel Home view:
1. Click on Appearance and Personalization.
2. Click on Show Hidden Files or Folders.
3. Go to step 4.

4. In the “Hidden Files and Folders” section select “Show Hidden Files and Folders”
5. Uncheck “Hide extensions for known file types”
6. Uncheck “Hide protected operating system files”
7. Click “Apply”, then click “OK”
8. Windows Vista is now configured to show all hidden files.
