Setting cache size in Internet explorer

Internet Explorer keeps a temporary record of all pages, images, and other information you load into your browser.  This is done to speed up the performance, since IE can reload these files from the cache when you reload the site, rather than downloading all of the information again.  This can be a tremendous time saver, but it also has the potential to be a major hassle.  A large cache means that more information is stored on your computer, and less means that information has to be downloaded again more often.  There are times when you want to remove the information stored in the cache, and start over, for personal or security reasons.  We’ll show you how to set the cache size, and how to clear that cache of all files it currently contains.

To set the cache size for Internet Explorer:
1. Start Internet Explorer.
2. Click Tools >> Internet Options.
3. Select the “General” tab.
4. Under “Temporary Internet Files”, click Settings.
5. Change the “Amount of disk space to use”. Drag the slider to do this.
6. Click OK.
7. Click OK.

Clearing the cache uses almost the same set of steps:

To clear your cache:

1. Follow steps 1 through 3 above.
2. Click the “Delete Files” button. This will permanently delete all temporary cache files.
3. Click OK.
4. Click OK.

To be sure that all files are updated at least once per session, you can set the cache to be cleared every time you exit IE.  This will not delete your cookies, but will clear other temporarily stored files.

To do that, follow these steps:
1. Start Internet Explorer.
2. Click Tools >> Internet Options.
3. Select the “Advanced” tab.
4. Under “Settings”, find the “security” section.
5. Check the “Empty Temporary Internet Files folder when browser is closed” box.
6. Click OK.
7. Click OK.
