How To Use The Backup Utility In Windows Small Business Server

Creating a backup of your Windows Small Business server is a relatively simple procedure.  The time it will require to actually make the backup will vary from machine to machine, and depends on the size of the hard disks, how many drives are involved, the speed of the machine, and host of other items.  Becaue of this, it’s recomended to run backup during low usage times, to prevent conflicts and access violations.

1. Click START >> Server Management.
2. Click Backup.
3. Configure the backup to accomodate the needs of your system. There are many options to consider here:
    A. Hard Disks and Removable Storage.
    B. Specific files or folders.
    C. Email and/or Website files.
4. Click “Backup Now”.
    A. Make a note of any Service Packs that have been installed.

In case of data loss or system failures, use the following steps:

1. Install Windows Small Business Server and any Service Packs that were present on the last backup.
2. Click START >> Server Management.
3. Click Restore.
    A. Follow all onscreen instructions carefully.
4. Verify the restoration was successful.
5. Re-instate all client computers on the network.
