VISTA: Hide Drives In My Computer

If you have a drive, such as a removable disk, that you do not want to be visible in My Computer, it is possible to hide the drive.  This will ONLY hide the drive, applications will still be able to access it, and commands may still be used on it. The process is moderately simple, and becomes easier with the binary conversion table provided after the steps for hiding the drive(s).

Here’s the process to use:
1. Click START.
2. Type “regedit”, and press ctrl-shift-ENTER.
3. Enter the administrator password, or provide confirmation, as requested.
4. Find the key labeled “HKEY_CURRENT_USERSoftwareMicrosoftWindowsCurrentVersionPolicies
Explorer”.
    NOTE: If there is not an “Explorer” key, right-click on Policies, select New Key and name it Explorer.
5. Right-click “Explorer”.
6. Select New >> DWORD Value.
7. Name the registry “NoDrives”.
8. Double-click “NoDrives”.
9. In the Value window, select “Decimal”.
10. Using the chart below, decide the decimal value of the drive letter to be hidden.
      Example: Drive E would be equal to decimal value 16.
      NOTE: To hide multiple drives, add the decimal values together. An example is drives A + F = 33.
11. Click “OK”
12. Close the registry Editor
13. Restart the computer.  Selected drives should now be invisible, but still functional.
