Moving the Default Spooling Directory
In some scenarios, you may need to move the default spooling location for printers on a system. Here is a quick tutorial on how to do that.
The default spooling directory on a Windows 2003 Server is %systemroot%System32SpoolPrinters. In some situations, you may need to move this directory in order to free up disk space or increase printing performance. This is a pretty quick procedure. Open the Printer and Faxes dialog from the Start Menu or Control Panel. Click File, and then Server Properties. Go to the Advanced Tab and modify the Spool Folder field with the new location. It is important to keep in mind that the path to this location must already exist and the location must not be the root of a drive (such as G:). If either of these things does happen, then the directory will automatically resort back to the default location.
