The temporary cache is used to store images and web pages that you visit, so that they can be loaded without downloading next time you visit the site.  By using a larger cache, you can store more of these temporary pages, and by clearing it, you force Firefox to reload (or refresh) all of your your pages.  A large cache could slow down your computer after a while, and security issues may also give you cause to delete the files contained.  We’ll look at the simple steps required to do both.

To change the size of the cache in Firefox:
1. Click Tools >> options.
2. Select “Privacy” tab.
3. Select “Cache” sub-category.
4. Enter the KB you want to set the cache at for “Use up to … KB of disk space for the cache”.
5. Click OK

To delete cache contents in Firefox:
1. Click Tools >> options.
2. Select “Privacy” tab.
3. Select “Cache” sub-category.
4. Under “Private Data”, click the “Clear Now” button.
5. Click OK

You can also set the length of time to keep history related files and other options under privacy.  These options will allow you to select various privacy options that help you maintain your individual security.  Be warned, however, that deleting most of these files will NOT clear them from your computer.  To do that, you should probably look on the internet for programs written specifically to clear critical or personal data off your computer, and even these tools are not absolutely certain to remove everything.  If your data is that sensitive, it might be a good idea to ask yourself if you want to have it on your computer at all.
