VISTA: How to Show Super Hidden Files

To reduce human error, Microsoft has developed hidden files over the years.  At first, the files could be locked, making them read-only.  With the advent of the Win9x operating systems, specific file types could be hidden from view.  Windows Vista has gone a step farther along that road, and come up with Super Hidden Files.

One of the problems, though, is that the bad stuff you don’t want, such as viruses and various forms of malware, know about Super Hidden Files, and try to emulate them.  So there may come a day when you need to see these files.

The following steps will do the trick:

1. Click START.
2. Type “regedit”, press ENTER.
3. Click “Continue”  to bypass “User Account Control”
4. Double-click “HKEY_CURRENT_USERSoftwareMicrosoftWindowsCurrentVersionExplorerAdvanced”
5. Double-click “Superhidden”
6. Change the “Value” box to “1” (one).
7. Click OK
8. Exit the Registry Editor
9. Restart the computer.

You should now be able to see Super Hidden Files.
Remember, as these are usually important files, deleting the wrong one could be disastrous for you.
