VISTA: How Do I Change The Name Of The Registered User Or Company
The good news, if you need to change the registered user (owner) in Windows Vista, is that isn’t too difficult. If you know how this is done in Windows XP, it is the same process. The exact same process will allow you to change the company name recorded in Vista, as well. The bad news, if you are computer-timid, is that the registry must edited. Before you get too worried, let me say that this is a simple procedure, and won’t take but a minute or two of your time.
Follow these steps, and you’ll have that owner name changed in no time:
1. Click START.
2. Type “regedit”.
3. You will be asked for confirmation to open the Registry Editor.
4. Click the “+” (untie) next to “HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE”.
5. Untie (“+”) the following: Software >> Microsoft >> Windows NT >> Current Version.
6. To change the registered user, double-click “RegisteredOwner”, enter desired name as the “Value data”.
To change the company name, double-click “RegisteredOrganization”, enter desired name as the “Value data”.
7. Exit the Registry Editor.
