Slow logging onto domain – Loading personal settings hangs

For some reason some machine on a network we where working on that recently migrated profiles back onto the main DC started having slow logons where it sat at “loading personal settings” for 5 minuites or more.  More often then none this is a network related issue and not a profile issue.  Here are a few things we tried, the final one worked but the other settings are important as well:

1) make sure the dns is set to the Domain controler

2) make sure that the machine is registered in the DC dns and can connect to all shares

3) Check the speed and duplex settings on your network card

4) disable any third party firewalls and other security programs

5) Make sure that if your XP firewall is turned on you have all the exeptions to allow file and print sharing

2) Set the machine to use static ip and statis DNS
